What Motherhood Means to Me

Tonight I ran across a photo contest on 5 Minutes for Mom. My mind immediately went to a photo that was taken back in June of 2005. It was the first time I was able to hold all three of my babies at the same time. June 4, over 2 months after they were born, the nurses handed me Robert, Matthew, and Noah. Most mothers can hold their baby within seconds of being born. It seemed like a lifetime before I was even able to touch my babies, who were born at 27 weeks and weighing in as little as 1 lb. 14 oz. The way that my boys fought to stay alive is what taught me about being a mother.

This is a beautiful picture of you. I would never have known that you had recently had a baby, let alone three.
You are very a very inspiring mom and woman, Cathy. You have a great attitude, an awesome sense of humor, and I'm lucky to have met you (even if it is through cyberspace on ST chats)!

Does it feel like just yesterday, or does it feel like that happened centuries ago? I go through moments of both. You look so happy and nervous all at once... so much like me back then!

I never took time - until now - to figure out that my girls' are only three months older than your boys.
