Leigha and the Triplets

Open mouth, insert foot! Or is it just karma?

I often sit here and wonder what is going to come back and bite me in the butt next. As I reflect on the past 20 years or so, I remember saying things here and there that I later regret.

For instance, about 20 years ago my aunt and uncle moved to Las Vegas. I think my first reaction was along the lines of why would anyone want to move to Las Vegas?! I figured that this was a great place to visit, but not to live! Fast forward about 10-12 years...where do I live? Las Vegas. Yummy words!

A little over 2 years ago, my friend told me that her cousin had triplets. I told her to pass on my congratulations and to have fun for the next 18 years (as I laughed.) I got pregnant shortly after that conversation. A few more months down the line I found out I was pregnant with triplets! Those words weren't on my list of foods I craved.

I remember the time when my first friend bought a minivan. I made fun of her. She was turning into a suburban mom and I vowed NEVER to do that! I pretty much made fun of anyone that bought a minivan. I am currently driving a 2005 Honda Odyssey and I am loving it!! I am really getting full now.

After moving to Vegas, I ran into an old college friend from Michigan. She was teaching 1st grade here (she was responsible for getting me into teaching...should I thank her or strangle her?) and was pregnant with her first child. I have never met someone so schedule oriented. I vowed never to be driven by a schedule. I had Leigha a year later. I loved the fact that we could just pick up and go anywhere at anytime. Schedule was not needed! Leigha learned to adapt to whatever we were doing. Naps were never written in stone and I enjoyed the freedom. I was proud of my non-scheduled life! THEN...I had three baby boys. HELLO schedule! I will admit, with a big smile on my face, that I am still not strict to a schedule. A nap hasn't kept me from going somewhere I really wanted. However, I do find myself sticking to our schedule as much as possible. Three babies? Work? I had no choice! I am really stuffed now.

Do you think I will learn my lesson? Do you think I will just keep my opinions and thoughts to myself? No! I forgot to add some more recent developments. The whole triplet world seems to be going on a Coromega Omega-3 craze. My friend Laura even ordered some. I gave her a hard time when ever we talked about it. I asked her if her three boys were talking in complete sentences two days after they started taking it. We are now on day 5 of the supplements. Sigh, I feel sick.

HOWEVER, I just don't think I can stop myself from giving Michelle grief for her daily antics. The joy of reading her blog would be gone. Who knows, I might just change my mind about more things!

Are you really giving fish oil? I'm HYSTERICAL! That's fantastic! Now, if you will do probiotics too, my world will be complete! I will never give you sh*t again. (Okay, I will, but I will go to bed supremely happy.) Ask me what probiotics, I'm ready. Ask me. Ask me.

Cathy - I was hysterical reading this. You are so funny. I too did the 'I would never move to Las Vegas' bit after my Mom and Grandmother came here. I mean who would want to live in a place that had no trees and the mountains were brown! right? Well, 9 months after they moved here guess where I was living?

As for the minivan...I drive an Excursion. Still can't do the minivan thing. Honestly, I'm going to have to see how you guys get everything in these minivans. I had a rental minivan when I was away 2 weeks ago. If I had to take my 2 boys and my 2 granddaughters to the supermarket - or better yet Sams club with me, I would never have enough room for all the kids and all the groceries. Maybe I just got a really small one or something. I feel like I have way more room in my SUV. I can fit 6 full size car seats and still have tons of storage in the back. Watch, I'll be driving a minivan 2 years from now :-).
