It's About Time!

On Monday, it finally happened. LEIGHA LOST HER FIRST TOOTH!!!! I swear that tooth has been loose for over two months now, I thought it would never come out. Leigha was eating some yogurt and then all of a sudden she started crying. She had her hands covering her mouth as she bawled. I saw that she was bleeding so I had her drink some water. She was still crying so I tried to get her mind off of the pain. I told her to check on her wiggly tooth. Voila! She pulled it out herself!! Needless to say, the tears stopped immediately and she was all smiles for the rest of the day!

Unfortunately, the whole Tooth Fairy visit went a bit sour. Leigha placed her tooth, in its cute envelope, under her pillow. In the morning she looked under her pillow and got upset because the tooth was gone and there wasn't anything under her pillow. I assured her that the Tooth Fairy wouldn't take her tooth without leaving something. Leigha is a bit of a mover in bed. So we peeked behind the bed. I told her I saw a special coin down there. Her response was a bit frustrating. She told me that was just a regular old quarter. I tried to explain that it was a Susan B. Anthony silver dollar. She wanted nothing to do with that. She was still searching behind her bed. Sigh. I brought her downstairs to show her the difference. Leigha told me she was supposed to get a rectangle paper dollar (at least she wasn't expecting more!). Then she started crying because she wanted her tooth. I guess I didn't explain to her that she would have to be a bit more specific if she wants to keep her tooth. I told her that I was sure she would get it back if she just wished for it. That was good enough for her, for a few minutes. The tears started again, so I told her I would run back upstairs and see if maybe the Tooth Fairy knew she wanted to keep her tooth, too, and possibly it had fallen off the bed. Wouldn't you know it, I found the tooth! Smart Tooth Fairy.

Leigha was happy to get her tooth back, but was still not being so wonderful about the special coin. By this time, I was getting a bit irritated. She knew this and was gladly cleaning up all of the boys' toys. She kept telling me that she was now happy and wanted her tooth and coin. I ignored her which just made her keep working even harder (maybe I should try this approach more often?). By the time we got to school, she ran around to all of the teachers showing off her hole. I heard the teachers asking what the Tooth Fairy brought her. She smiled and said that she got a special coin! I guess she knew what was good for her. Thankfully, all of the teachers made it sound like it was the neatest gift to get.

Gee, I wonder what the Tooth Fairy will bring with the next lost tooth?!
