Leigha and the Triplets

Happy Birthday, Robert, Noah, and Matthew!

I can't believe that my boys are THREE! That is just incomprehensible to me. On Thursday, March 27th, they turned three years old. Unfortunately, with school all day, two hours of speech therapy, and dinner, we didn't have much time to celebrate. We are going to have a mini party on Saturday.

In so many ways these three years have flown by. However, it also seems like a lifetime ago that those boys were born 13 weeks premature. I don't miss that roller coaster ride that lasted 98 days in the NICU.

I couldn't let the day totally go by unnoticed, so Leigha and I picked up a cake on our way home. That same cake took a dive in our van before we reached the house. No big deal, it still tasted yummy!

I really didn't think the boys understood that it was their birthday. They have never been able to answer the, "How old are you" question. I don't think they have any concept of age. Then I brought out the cake. It was "Happy Birfday Cake." They sure understood now, but were tormented by it while Mom lit the candle and set it away from them. As I have said before, I don't trust these boys. If I were to turn my back my house might get burnt down.

They were mesmerized!

Matthew LOVES cake (and every other junk food)!

Even Noah, who doesn't like sweets too much, was enjoying himself.

Robert thought it was finger-licking good!

Robert, Noah, and Matthew are also about to embark on a new journey. They qualified for Early Childhood classes through the school district. I was very worried since they know more than Leigha knew at this age. They can already identify their lowercase and uppercase letters, they can count to 20, they can count backwards from 10, they know their shapes, and so much more. The areas in which they scored lower were quite amusing to me. Can they drink from an open cup? Do you THINK I am crazy enough to hand them an open cup? Sippy cups still tend to fly across the table and room! Can they cut with scissors? Do you THINK I am going to hand them scissors? People just don't understand how the minds of triplets work. They can do so much more damage than one or several kids at different age levels.

The areas where they are lower are speech, language, gross motor skills like jumping, standing on one foot, oh, and that pesky little thing called POTTY TRAINING! Someone else is going to potty train my kids, what could be better? I was thrilled to find out that their teacher is someone I used to work with. She will be wonderful. I just can't believe that my little boys will be climbing on a school bus on Tuesday. That is just unreal to me.

They provided Matthew with stroller/wheelchair that will be strapped down to the bus. Robert and Noah will sit in car seats. I wonder what will be going through their minds as they pull away. I am not sure I envy that bus driver. Hopefully they will be too excited to get frightened.

Happy birthday, my sweet little boys!
