TODAY!

This week I was challenged by someone to turn my "someday" into "TODAY". Most people are forever saying that someday they will do something. I have a list longer than I care to admit. However, on Thursday I made one of them my TODAY!

I have always had dreams of being able to catch up with what I want to accomplish, but that's unrealistic. If you accomplish everything you want to, then what is next? Unfortunately, you will never accomplish anything if you keep putting them off.

A few years ago, when I got my first digital camera, my brother set up a website for me to post my family photos. This way I could keep my friends and family updated with pictures of Leigha, and eventually the boys. Then last year, I started this blog. At first my mom complained because I stopped working as hard on the other website. Now that I have started getting digital scrapbooking files organized, she complains that I don't keep my blog up enough for her liking!

The unfortunate thing is that all of my pictures, up until about 4 years ago, are in photograph albums. That means that they aren't on my computer and I can post them. For years I have been saying that SOMEDAY I would scan my photos into my computer. Rachel gave me the kick that I needed to make that someday, TODAY! I grabbed two pictures from my days on the road with Disney on Ice.

Double Feature 1995

Snow White 1997

I learned three things, after scanning these pictures. One, I would definitely need a new scanner. Each of those pictures took up to 5 minutes to preview and scan! If I scan all of my pictures on there, I would never do it. Second, I now have another TODAY...I need to lose this weight I have been putting on the last year and a half. Looking back on these pictures made me a bit depressed. I would love to blame my weight gain on the boys, but it would be a lie. I lost my pregnancy weight and MORE after having them. I will admit that it might not have been the healthiest weight loss, as I never had time to eat or sit down. The third thing I learned is more than obvious from the second picture. I must remind myself, if I ever see a bathing suit again, that one must lay out with arms above head if you have to do an Arabian number! Oh well, after Egypt we were headed back to Europe again...no laying out there!

I am now the proud owner of a new Canon scanner! It is much faster than my 4-in-1 Hewlett Packard that is 8 years old. So Thursday, I started out in the right direction. Then I hit my next problem. Someday I was going to try to figure out how to organize my computer paraphernalia. When we moved to this house, I bought a new computer desk for MY office. I was so excited. I found this gorgeous corner style desk. One of my friends told me that she wouldn't get it because it's hard to get to. I didn't seem to think it would be a problem (thinking is a problem I have often). It was a complete pain, just ask my husband and my uncle.

As time went by, and I bought an external DVD burner, scanner, 2 hard drives, camera, video camera, etc., I found that I was living in cord hell. I only have 2 USB ports on the front of my computer. That meant I had to keep taking one out to use another one. I have always wanted to straighten it out, just kept putting it off. UNTIL LAST NIGHT! Last night I decided I was doing it TODAY! I started pulling cords out of the back, blindly, and praying I could get it back together without having a melt down. To my complete amazement I was back up and running, all tidy, in about 30 minutes. I was so proud of myself! I have no more cables under my feet, across the room, etc. My tower is now next to my monitor. I have two power strips in the hole that used to contain the tower. Everything I need for the computer is plugged into those two strips and into the wall behind it. I couldn't believe how easy it was! That an outlet on either side of my monstrosity of a desk for things like Leigha's computer, stereo, lights, etc.

Then my smile was wiped out. I turned the light off to go to bed. I heard about 5 things shutting off all of a sudden. It turns out that the top plug is controlled by my light switch. Sigh. So TODAY I am going to rearrange everything and set it straight; I will make it work!

Yesterday I also came to a revelation. As I walked around the house, collecting empty Diet Coke cans, I realized I have a problem. There is something about the 18 empty cans of Diet Coke that is a bit alarming, especially when I have more at work during the day. With the 115 degree temperatures, I have been drinking a lot. I decided that it was time to get back to water (and Diet Coke). Yesterday I took a large jug of water to school and drank it all! Then I came home and had another one. Don't get me wrong, I still had Diet Coke, but probably just 6 or 7 cans! Baby steps...don't expect too much out of me that fast. I am going to start my Winsor Pilates TONIGHT!

I love your old pictures! Wow! You were hot, Mama!

Did you really drink EIGHTEEN cans of diet coke in ONE DAY? Or is that from 18 days? Because you are freaking me out!

I was totally laughing at this post because I was predicting what you were going to say before you did!
The tanning comment about the arabian pose is hilarious!
